Hello everyone, welcome to today's broadcast. We started discussing THE NAME OF JESUS yesterday and I gave some insights from Song of songs 1:3 and Ex. 30:22-25.
Today, let us plunge into the fully into the teaching.
Many messages have been preached, many Dramas have been acted, many songs have been composed and many books have been written concerning THE NAME OF JESUS.
Despite all of this, so many Christians are still at the shallow level in the functional knowledge they have on the Name of Jesus. This is seriously pathetic.
Let me say first of all that the name of Jesus is not just a punctuation mark in spiritual dialogue. You know we start our prayers in the name of Jesus and end with 'Amen'. Everything begins and ends in Him.
Col 1:17 says 'And he is before all things, and by him all things consist'.
Our prayers start and ends in His name. I hope you know that 'Amen' Doesn't just mean 'so be it'?
AMEN IS THE NAME OF JESUS.
Rev 3:14 ...These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
We start prayers in the name of Jesus and end with the name of Jesus.
What Does the NAME OF JESUS REPRESENT?
When you mention a person's name, you are calling the person's attention to something or a place. Everything a person represents is embedded in his/her name.
Let's dig the scriptures:
Hebrews 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
From the above verses of scriptures, i. The name of Jesus rank higher than the name of angels.
ii. The verse four says He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than the angels.
The questions are:
* What does 'by inheritance' mean?
** What is the excellent name?
* In dateless past, there is a predestination on God the Word based on the unanimous decision of the GOD-HEAD that He will become the SON OF GOD. This is what is meant by 'He obtained a more excellent name by inheritance'. Notice that when the members of the God Head were mentioned in Genesis and some other places, what we saw was GOD THE FATHER, THE WORD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT. Gen. 1:3, John 1:1, 1 John 5:7. It was when GOD THE WORD ENTERED INTO THE WOMB OF MARY AND WAS BORN THAT WE HAVE THE SON.
The name of the body the Son wears around is JESUS. This is why the name 'Jesus' is not mentioned in the Old Testament.
The 'MORE EXCELLENT NAME' that He obtained by inheritance is SON OF GOD.
This means that He is the HEIR (inheritor, possessor) OF ALL THINGS.
Not only is He the possessor of all things, ALL THINGS (WITH NO EXCEPTION) WERE MADE BY HIM. John 1:1-4, Heb. 1:2.
Jesus is the Son of God. Col. 1:7.
CASE TWO
Phi. 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The question is this what name was given to Him after He rose from the dead?
I will like to tell you that NO CHANGE HAPPENED TO HIS NAME LITERARILY.
Rather, POWER AND AUTHORITY WERE VESTED INTO HIS NAME. Mt. 28:18. Everything that connotes the Power and authority of the God-Head is now IN HIS NAME.
The Throne of the Almighty God backs up the call of the name of JESUS.
I Like to stop here and continue tomorrow.
