Hello everyone, welcome to another exciting edition of this Prophetic Series. I am sorry I couldn't post online yesterday. I had to travel and my phone ran out of charge.
Today, we are considering
THE FUNCTIONS OF A PROPHET
A prophet is one of the Headship Gifts that have been sovereignly placed in the Church to carry to carry out the responsibilities listed in . Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
The above scripture describes the corporate roles of the Five fold ministers.
Every local Church ought to have the Five fold ministries in it. If this is not going to be so, the Set man in such assembly ought to surround himself/herself with other Five fold ministers. A local Church should be exposed to the Five fold ministries. What is common today is that most ministry associations consist of one or two ministries. I.e. Teachers move with teachers; Prophets associate with prophets, etc. When the Set man of a Church is a pastor or pastor and teacher, members in there won't know how to respond to a prophet that is not a teacher. As a matter of fact, their behaviour may be very funny.
Eph. 4:9-15 IS THE RESULTANT EFFECT OF THE FIVE FOLD MINISTRIES. Let's now look at the roles of prophets.
ROLES OF PROPHETS TO INDIVIDUAL BELIEVERS
A. Prophets are to confirm what God has said to you. Acts 13:1-4. We see example in Paul and Agabus the prophet confirming the dilemma that await Paul in Jerusalem. Acts 21:11.
B. All believers can be led by the Spirit of God but, because of the gross immaturity in the Body of Christ, prophets in the New Testament still function like their Old Testament counterparts in leading people and giving them God's counsel concerning a matter which are previously unknown.
Let me explain myself;
i. You see the Greek word used for 'son of God' in ROM. 8:14 is HUIOS. It talks about 'a matured son'.
ii. Jesus says 'My sheep hears my voice'. John 10:27. SHEEP IS MATURE while a LAMB is young and immature. The case most times is this: THE LAMBS FOLLOW THE SHEEP AS THE SHEEP FOLLOW THE SHEPHERD.
Prophets will still continue to guide believers as long as they remain in babyhood stage.
C. Purpose (Life assignment) and specific Callings of individuals can also be confirmed by prophets. Act 13:1-4
D. Prophetic ministry sharpens your spiritual sensitivity and activate everything prophetic in you.
E. You see anointing can flow to you by association. Saul the king that wasn't a prophet prophesied with such degree of accuracy that the people asked 'is Saul also among the prophets'? 1 Sam. 10:12.
When you stay under the ministry of a prophet, the prophetic anointing rubs off on you and you too can function to a large extent (depending on your degree of alignment and hunger) as a prophet. The same is true of every other ministry gift. Honour is the key that opens this door. Let me stop here tonight and continue tomorrow.
ACTIVATION
Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. 2 Chro. 20:20
